The International Training Workshop on BDS Technology and Applications in Countries along the Belt and Road was kick-started on 4 September at Beijing Conference Center. Over 20 trainees from 13 countries, including Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia and Egypt, etc attended the workshop. The training workshop was held within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative with the aim of introducing both theoretical knowledge and applications of BDS to the Belt and Road countries, familiarize trainees with BDS and its applications, so as to identify potential areas of application and lay the foundation for future cooperation.
After a few years of hard work, BDS has been successfully used in Southeast Asia and other covered areas. It has been applied in Myanmar’s agriculture, forestry, land planning, the monitoring of Mekong River, Laos’ precision agriculture and pest monitoring & management, Brunei’s smart tourism and Indonesia’s integrated maritime applications……From lush forests of ASEAN countries to the vast region of the Arab world, from green rippling waves in rivers and seas to the boundless expanse of land, BDS’s application has achieved remarkable results in the process of going global.
Under the guidance of China Satellite Navigation Office, the training workshop was supported by Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and co-organized by Academy of Opto-Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academic Exchange Center for China Satellite Navigation Office. Mr. CAI Lanbo, Chief Engineer of China Satellite Navigation Office, Mr. YI Hong, Deputy Director of Navigation Headquarters, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ms LIU Jie, Director of Department of International Cooperation of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to the opening ceremony of the training workshop and delivered their speeches.
In Chief Engineer CAI Lanbo’s speech, he highlighted BDS’s contribution to the economic and social development etc in China and pointed out the application prospects of BDS in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. Deputy Director YI Hong briefly introduced the development and application of BDS in China. Director LIU Jie extended a warm welcome to the trainees and expressed hope for future international exchange and cooperation in BDS. After speeches by several guests, each of the trainees gave a brief self-introduction speech and shared with guests what they hope to gain from attending the workshop.
It’s learned that the training workshop will last two weeks. It opens a new chapter of BDS technology applications and BDS-related exchange & cooperation after the 2017 Beidou International Training Workshop in Thailand concluded.
